Hometown hero has become the first British Asian driver to win the Formula 1 World Championship 2024.

Local lad becomes a living legend, winning the 2024 Formula 1 World Championship.
Kavish Gandhi, of Gerrards Cross, is set to return home after his astonishing F1 win.
Former student at Dr Challoner’s Grammar School, Kavish Gandhi, is returning to his hometown having won the 2024 championship, the first British Asian to do so.
As the final race approached, all fans knew the Abu Dhabi race was going to decide the next world champion.
Kavish Gandhi and Max Verstappen were neck and neck on points and both knew this had to be their best drive yet. In the final lap Kavish flew past Max and after rounds of fierce competition won the title.
In securing the title, Kavish secured Ferrari the win, coming back strong after the previous season’s string of losses.
Kavish, 22, first started driving at his local go-kart track in Gerrard‘s Cross at the age of 9, his parents, who continue to live in GX, could see even then that he had promise.
“We only went to the GX Go-Karting track for a friend’s birthday party but Kavish loved it and took to it very easily”
Kavish is set to return home after his win to re-open the newly refurbished GX Go-Karting track.
The track features a larger, more comfortable viewing platform and a more challenging circuit for aspiring drivers.
Samantha Cook, who manages the track, said to the GX Times; ‘We are so honoured to welcome back Kavish and absolutely thrilled about his historic win.’
Kavish is reopening the GX Go-Karting track on Friday, 31st May. The event is by invitation only.
